As a request for support – SJ Zulu Petrol Station
This fuel station is situated in Newcastle KZN. The land is owned by the family of the late SJ Zulu who died last year. It is being leased out to Arshad Mohamed who also operates the hardware/building supply store in close proximity of the fuel station.
Violence erupted in the area during the weekend of 9th of July 2021. The SJ Zulu family tried to protect the property for 3 days but was overrun in the early hours of Tuesday 13 July 2021 by looters. The people did not only loot the property but also vandalised the pumps, forecourt and the kiosk.
They stole/spilled 23 000 litres of petrol and diesel. They totally cleaned out (arrived with a crane truck) the hardware store as well as the kiosk. Further damage was inflicted and these looters broke window frames out of the walls.
Due to Covid –the operator was not in a position to keep insurance paid up. Yes, today looking back they should have kept the SASRIA but who could have thought this type of thing was even possible!!!
We are committed to try and assist the operator. Unfortunately, we are not able to do it by ourselves. We are requesting support. GASPET will be able to assist with the following:
- Issuing the necessary certificates or letters signed by the owners (Should donations or soft loans be used for BBBEE purposes)
- Project management of the repairs and management of the funds on the behalf of the contributor.
- Arrangements with SNG Grant-Thornton to independently report back on any support received and to ensure that the funds are being used for helping these two families in getting the station into an operational state.
- GASPET’s whole maintenance and installations team to go and assist on site.
Support on the following is required:
- Replacement of pumps – negotiations are in place with a pump manufacturer to supply the new pumps at cost.
- Replacement of the stock – forecourt as well as kiosk. Initial petroleum stock at cost.
- Financial contribution for the repair of general forecourt, signage, kiosk and front view of station.
The estimated budget required to do the bare minimum to ensure that the station can get to a stage of operation is +/-R500 000.
Every little donation or loan will assist and they will greatly appreciate any form of support.
Your time and consideration in this matter will be highly appreciated and assisting in correcting the tragic events in South Africa
