The GASPET fleet

GASPET FLEET

Bulk petroleum products, including wholesale diesel and petrol, are transported by a variety of means, including road, rail, and pipeline. The method of transportation used depends on various factors such as the distance to be covered, the quantity of the product to be transported and the availability of infrastructure.

In South Africa, road transport is the most common method of transporting bulk petroleum products. Tanker trucks are used to transport diesel fuel and other petroleum products from depots to retail outlets, industrial customers and other end-users. These trucks are typically equipped with tanks that can carry between 15,000 and 40,000 litres of fuel, depending on the specifications of the vehicle.

What are split loads?

A split load is a term used to describe a shipment of petroleum products, that is divided between multiple delivery points or different products to the same client. In the context of the petroleum industry, a split load typically refers to a tanker truck carrying a combination of product in the independent compartments within the tanker. Diesel and petrol can be delivered to different retail outlets or end-users. For example, a split load of petroleum products may include 30,000 litres of diesel fuel and 12,000 litres of petrol, which are delivered in a single trip. Split loads are often used to optimise delivery routes and reduce transportation costs by delivering multiple types of fuel in a single trip. However, it is important that appropriate documentation is provided for each delivery point.

To transport bulk petroleum products, various paperwork is required to ensure compliance with regulations and safety standards. This includes documentation such as transport permits, waybills, and manifests, which provide information about the quantity and type of fuel being transported, as well as the origin and destination of the shipment.
